At Ecocor, we’re so serious about continuous learning we closed our shop floor last week. Our crew participated in a three-day Passive House training program presented by Andrew Peel of Peel Passive House Consulting. Andrew, just like Technical Director Chris Corson is a passionate visionary of the Passive House standard.
Since, Ecocor homes are built panel by panel on a factory floor, it is important that team members understand the science behind Passive House.
Andrew took our crew step-by-step through the elements that make a Passive House the most durable, comfortable and efficient buildings on the planet. He clarified questions about thermal bridging and the importance of continuous air tightness and insulation.
Technical Director, Chris Corson added commentary on why Ecocor components are vapor open in light of a Passive House’s continuous air tightness and insulation. There were a lot of good questions with clear and thoughtful answers.
At the end of the three day Passive House Intensive, team members were better informed about Passive House requirements and how it applied to their work on the shop floor. Improvement on the shop floor improves the quality of Ecocor homes. And that's good for our customers.
Andrew's primary areas of expertise are in low carbon buildings and renewable energy, both large and small scale. The leap into sustainability came with the completion of a MSc in Renewable Energy. While writing his Master’s thesis, Andrew worked at the Passivhaus Institut in Germany, where the foundations of his Passive House and energy efficiency expertise were laid. Andrew is a course instructor for the Passive House Canada and one of only a handful of Canadian-based Passive House certifiers accredited by the German Passivhaus Institut.
